This is not just a crow.
This is my shadow—my grief, my rage, my lineage.
The one who stayed when no one else did.
I painted this during a time of reckoning—
when I began to learn that rage could be holy.
That grief could be a guide.
That I could sit in the dark and still feel warmth on my skin.
The crow became my companion in the places I once feared.
It lives in the spaces deemed impolite.
The places where power hides.
And it taught me:
What is below is also above.
What is shadow is also light.
This painting is an honoring—
of the parts I once exiled,
and of the beauty I found in the black.
